All Diffusers come with a safety stopper inside so there is no accidentally spilling 
Just remove it, put wooden lid back on and hold it upside-down for a few seconds so it can soak. Put stopper back in and enjoy the scent.
The wooden bead also has a purpose! The higher up you put it the more scent it will release! If a scent is to weak for you push it up, if a scent is to strong keep it low.
